Abstract
1,008,182. X-ray tubes. FIELD EMISSION CORPORATION. Oct. 17, 1962 [Dec. 19, 1961], No. 39250/62. Heading H1D. An X-ray tube has an elongated conical anode 30 supported in a plurality of radially arranged parallel filament wires 48 providing both field and thermal emission held by supports 34, 36, surrounded by a shield and focusing element 50 held at filament or negative potential. The assembly may be contained in an extension of the cap outside the main body of the tube (Fig. 5, not shown). The filament may be alternatively formed by a cylindrical cage fed axially or radially (Figs. 8 and 10, not shown). A shielded getter element 54, 56 is connected between a connector pin 58 and one of the filament heads. The filament pins 42 are arranged to be raised to a temperature below emission temperature by conduction from the filament and through surface resistivity so that they are self-cleaning. The assembly may be also mounted in an L-section tube with the filament heads brought out at right angles to the anode axis. A shielded getter 54, 56 is provided.
