Abstract

A fireproof heat-insulating composition comprises by weight 10-30 (preferably 17-23) parts of asbestos, 20-40 (preferably 30-35) parts of exfoliated vermiculite, 25-50 (preferably 35-40) parts of kieselguhr, and 5-20 (preferably 7-11) parts of sodium silicate. The ingredients may be formed into an aqueous slurry, in which the sodium silicate is dissolved, and then filtered to deposit the ingredients as a panel, the sodium silicate being in greater quantity in the slurry than is required in the final product to allow for loss in the effluent during filtration.
