Abstract

An adhesive comprises a mixture of an aqueous dispersion of bitumen and a polyvinyl alcohol solution, the proportions by weight of either varying between 5 and 95 per cent. For an immediate set a coagulant for the polyvinyl alcohol, e.g. sodium borate or sulphate, or congo red, is put on one surface, the adhesive being put on the other. Oleic acid and bentonite may be present in the bitumen dispersion, and the binder may contain inert fillers, e.g. sand, pumice stone, aluminium powder, cement powder, plaster, cork or wood grains, or fibres of rayon, wool or cotton.
