Abstract

1,006,446. Gas cookers. SMITH & WELLSTOOD Ltd. Aug. 20, 1962 [Oct. 31, 1961], No. 38830/61. Heading F4W. In a cooking range having a hot plate 12 heated by gas burner 31 a combustion chamber 23 is supported by and closely interfits with tray 14 mounted below the hot plate in a well 10 above an oven 11, the unit comprising the combustion chamber and tray being arranged to catch spillage from the hot plate and being removable from the range to facilitate removal of spillage. The tray (Fig. 4) has upstanding walls 17 provided with flanges 18 which are sandwiched between the hot plate 12 and ledges 13. One of the walls 17 is provided with a duct 20 which communicates with a flue 21 through an aperture in a wall 22 of the wall 10, and the base of the tray has an opening 16 surrounded by upstanding walls 19. The combustion chamber 23 fits into the opening 16 with flanges 28 on two of its walls 27 resting on the walls 19 of the opening. A third wall 24 is provided with an opening 29 through which projects a nozzle 30 of the burner 31, and a fourth wall 25 has a flange 26 which is sandwiched between the hot plate and one of the ledges 13. The fit between the combustion chamber and tray is close to inhibit leakage of spillage into the well 10. Baffle plates 32 and 34 are placed in the combustion chamber to direct combustion products upwardly towards the hot plate.
