Abstract

100,434. Haynes, E. May 10, 1915, [Convention date]. Alloys.-Cobalt-chromium alloys having characteristics of the noble metals contain also iron or nickel in sufficient quantity to soften the metal. The alloys preferably contain about 20 per cent. of chromium, 75-5 per cent. of cobalt, and 5-75 per cent. of iron, the carbon content being small; but the chromium content may be increased to 80 per cent., and a small proportion of other metals, such as molybdenum, may be introduced. Ferrotitanium or manganese may be employed as deoxidants. If ferro-chromium is used in making the alloys, the carbon content may be reduced by the addition of metallic oxide.
