Abstract

1092. Heusler, F., and British Mining and Metal Co. Jan. 14. Alloys.-A copper alloy containing from 15 to 30 per cent of manganese and from 5 to 15 per cent of aluminium, with or without small quantities of lead, tin, nickel, cadmium, cobalt, chromium, &c., is used in the manufacture of manganese-bronze or manganese-brass. For example, 54 parts of copper are alloyed with 6 parts of an alloy containing 25 per cent of manganese, 2 per cent of iron, 10 per cent of aluminium, and 63 per cent of copper, and 40 parts of zinc are added. Alloys for bearings containing 85 per cent of copper, 9 per cent of tin, and 6 per cent of zinc, may be treated with 2 per cent of the copper-manganese-aluminium alloy.
