Abstract

A ferritic stainless steel with improved magnetic properties for magnetic components such as solenoid cores consists of: .Cr.11.5 - 19.0%, .C.0.01 - 0.2%, .Si.0 - 4.0%, .Mn.0 - 2.0%, .Ni.0 - 1.0%, .N.0 - 0.15%, .P.0 -0.05%, .S.0 - 0.34%, .Ti.0 - 0.52%, .Al.0.35 - 4.0%, with Fe and impurities as balance, the Al content being at least 0.33% + 3(%C). The steel may be hot worked, e.g. by forging, pressing, extrusion or rolling, then cold worked and/or heat treated by heating to at least 1250 DEG F., e.g. 1300 DEG F., prior to air cooling.
