Abstract

1,002,659. Regulating draught. J. ADLINGTON, and F. B. BARKER. July 29, 1964 [Aug. 22, 1963], No. 33209/63. Heading F4W. A pivotably adjustable damper 4, to vary the hot gas flow to a back boiler behind a fire-place, situated in a flue over the firebrick back is connected through a chimney breast, by a link-andlever mechanism 5-11, to an expansion operated unit 12-14, situated externally of the boiler, controlled by the temperature of water from the back boiler. Increase in the water temperature causes unit 14 (Fig. 1, not shown) to expand with its associated spindle 13, thereby lifting forked arm 11 and connecting line 10, causing rotation of damper 4 through adjusting arm 9 and rod 5 within sleeve 6. Forked arm 11 rests on a peg 21 located in one of a series of notches 20 on the periphery of a wheel 12 eccentrically mounted on spindle 13 of member 14, and on which an adjusting knob 15 is also mounted. Turning knob 15 effectively adjusts the point of contact between the wheel 12 and arm 11 to enable the damper to be preset in a specified position to regulate the hot gas flow and the resultant final water temperature.
