Abstract
1,002,627. Welding cables. GAR WOOD INDUSTRIES Inc. June 10, 1964 [June 11, 1963], No. 24055/64. Heading H1A. [Also in Division H2] The Figure shows an arrangement by which the conductors of a kickless water-cooled welding cable are joined to one or other of end terminals 12, 14. The cable comprises seven insulated sets of conductors A-G of which four (A, B, C, D) are to be joined to one terminal and three (E, F, G) to the other. Conductors A-D are moved in the direction of arrows W and conductors E, F, G in the opposite direction (arrows X). The conductors are then secured in the hollow backs 46, 48 of the terminal blocks with four in the lower block and three in the upper. The sets of conductors are taped together just beyond the point at which the separation commences. This arrangement is said to leave a free channel providing water which enters the terminals at 38 and passes along the cable to its other end. Holes are provided in the conductor insulation to allow the water to circulate round the cores. Terminal details.-The two terminals 12, 14 bolt together to form a complete cylinder over which the outer cable sheath 50 is drawn and clamped, serrations being provided on the terminal exterior to assist gripping. The terminals are clamped on opposite sides of a separating insulating plate 16 by a screw passing an insulating bush in one of them. The concavity 36 allows water entering at 38 to flow to the cable recesses 46, 48 receive the bored cable ends. Specifications 685,746 and 890,018 are referred to.
