Abstract

A sound damping material for application to a metal sheet comprises a sheet or pad of a sound damping composition which is capable of being fused to the metal by heating which is coated on the side which is to contact the metal with a thin layer of a nitrile rubber latex the monomer composition of which by weight is 30-70 parts butadiene, 15-40 parts acrylonitrile, 0-30 parts styrene and 0-7 parts of unsaturated carboxylic acid or acids. The sound damping composition comprises bitumen and/or a resinous p sound damping material e.g. a resin derived from coumarone, indene, coumarone-indene, styrene-indene or cyclopentadiene or homologues of these compounds and may contain a filler, e.g. clay, mica, whiting, slate powder, sand, barytes, talc, asbestos, ground granite, carbon black, silica, wood flour or cork and a plasticizer or softener.
