A silent-operating door latch comprises a pinion I which is engaged by a spring-loaded keeper 2 and rotates said pinion during closing of the door, and is then automatically locked against opening by a spring-loaded friction clutch 4. The said clutch is released by pulling a rod 14 in the opposite direction to the arrow b shown in Fig. 2, so that lever 7, in contact with an arm 8 on the friction clutch, releases same.
