[Also in Division F4] A closing device for a closure member 3 pivotally mounted on a shaft 4 comprises a lever 6 keyed to the shaft and with a flexible portion 6 engaging the closure member and a second lever 8 also keyed to the shaft and extending radially therefrom, the second lever being connected to a rod 9 which is pivoted to a cam connected to a handle. The handle lies along the length of the rod and the handle and cam are moved through an opening 13 in a wall of the container to be closed to release the closure member. To secure the closure member in closed position, after pulling the handle and cam, they are pivoted so that the handle abuts the surface of the container wall the cam causing more effective closure. The closing device may be applied to a closure member for a furnace, silo or other container.
