Abstract
1,000,921. Drying apparatus. WALKDEN WAKIN & CO. Ltd. July 20, 1964 [July 18, 1963], No. 28390/63. Heading F4G. A web drying apparatus comprises one or more rotary drying cylinders A arranged in a closed easing B provided with a fan D<SP>1</SP> and heat exchanger C for supplying heated air to nozzles b about the cylinder or cylinders and each cylinder is at least partially open at both ends so that the heated air after impinging on the web travels to the ends of the cylinder, then passes therethrough to heat the interior wall, finally passing out to exhaust ducting d at one end of the casing. Each cylinder is partially closed at the ends by internal cylinders a<SP>2</SP>, a<SP>4</SP> which are supported on spiders a<SP>5</SP>. The cylinder a<SP>2</SP> has an outer closed end a<SP>3</SP> to provide an annular passageway for the heated air between the walls of the cylinders A, a<SP>2</SP> and the third cylinder a<SP>4</SP> is open at each end, is spacedly mounted within the cylinder A at the opposite end from cylinder a<SP>2</SP> and extends through the wall of the casing B into the ducting d so that the air may be exhausted or recirculated therethrough. The end of the cylinder a<SP>4</SP> may be closed or blanked off so as to apply heated air only to the upper surface of the web to be dried.
