Abstract

1347866 Heated dryer drums; rotary furnaces SOC NATIONALE DES GAZ DU SUDOUEST and COMPAGNIE DES FOURS INDUSTRIELS 19 April 1971 [3 Feb 1970] 20716/71 Headings F4G and F4B A rotatable drum 1 (for drying woven fabric, paper or mud) is heated by at least one stationary duct connected to a combustion chamber and to an exhaust pipe. The ducts 11, 11a may be of hair-pin form (Fig. 1) or may be helical (Fig. 2). The ducts 11, 11a are connected to combustion chambers 9a, 9 and to smoke boxes 13 connected to exhaust pipes 13<SP>1</SP>. The combustion chambers 9a, 9 are supplied with fuel gas or oil and air via inlets 8 and 7. Heat may be recovered from the smoke boxes 13 by forced circulation of a gas around the smoke boxes 13a over the material being dried. The drum-supporting rollers 3 and 3a are driven by variable-speed-reducing gear and motor unit 17, 18. Masks 15 prevent excessive heat from being transmitted to the drum.
