Abstract
1,000,647. Finishing fabrics. GROVE VALE CURTAIN CO. Ltd. July 14, 1964 [July 15, 1963], No. 27946/63. Heading D1S. A ruched effect is produced in a fabric woven or knitted from synthetic yarns by incorporating at selected intervals in the fabric crammed strips 2 of a yarn having a greater rate of shrinkage than that of the yarn forming the ground fabric 1, shrinking the fabric thus produced, and subjecting the fabric to a heat setting process whereby to cause the crammed stripes 2 to contract to a greater degree than the ground fabric 1 to form gathers or folds therein. The ground fabric 1 may be woven in leno or voile weave and the stripes 2 are incorporated as warp threads woven in plain weave. The fabric may be made of polyethylene terephthalate yarns and the stripes 2 of polyvinyl chloride. The shrinking of the fabric may be effected during the normal scouring process preceding dyeing and heat setting. The heat setting process comprises passing the fabric through an oven on a tenter frame, the oven being heated to a temperature of 210-220‹C. for the yarns stated above.
