Abstract

In a method of making a fabric using a warp knitting machine having a front bar and at least one back bar, yarn fed to the front bar is knitted and has a minimum potential shrinkage of 7% and the yarn fed to the back bar or bars, is laid in, and the fabric so produced is shrunk under such conditions that it has less than 15% stretch in both length and width directions. The yarn is preferably composed of at least 50% by weight of linear polymeric fibres and the fabric is preferable stretched widthwise and overfed lengthwise whilst heated to a temperature of at least 200 DEG F.
