Abstract

1322494 Woven fabrics SYNTHETIC FABRICS (SCOTLAND) Ltd 13 July 1970 [13 May 1969] 24306/69 Heading D1K A woven carpet backing fabric comprises synthetic plastics warp yarns and synthetic plastics weft yarns which are cut at the edge of the fabric and a selvedge formed at each edge of the fabric by at least one pair of warp yarns which are leno woven the selvedge having the same weight per unit area as the remainder of the fabric. The warp and weft yarns may be rectangular cross section longitudinally orientated propylene homopolymers or copolymers and the leno yarns can be polyester or polyamide with a cotton sheath. Two pairs of spaced leno warp yarns may be provided at each edge of the fabric and a larger number of warp yarns/cm having a lower denier can be provided in the vicinity of the selvedges to produce a fabric of constant density which will not allow the formation of gaps therein during tentering and subsequent treatment processes after weaving.
