433,623. Axle-boxes; lubricating. PITNER, A., and SOC. ANON. DES ROULEMENTS A AIGUILLES, 34, Boulevard de l'Yser, Paris. Feb. 17, 1934, No. 5288. Convention date, Feb. 21, 1933. [Classes 12 (i) and 12 (iii)] A railway-vehicle axle-box 2 with needle roller bearings 4 has a lubricating disc or ring 6, which functions as an axial thrust member, secured to the journal, this disc or ring being in sliding contact with co-operating plates or rings 13, 14 rigid with the axle box, arranged on opposite sides of the disc 6. The two sets of needle roller bearings 4 may have a common race 5, or separate interlocked races. The lubricating disc 6 is non-rotatably mounted on the journal 1 by means of keys, dogs, flats, eccentric parts or the like and secured thereon by a nut or equivalent device 7. A projection on a rib 9 of the disc 6 mates with the end surface of the race 5 so that the latter is also non- rotatable on the journal. Similar locking means may be employed between the race sections when the race is sub-divided, and between the race 5 and a ring 11 or a shoulder 12. The thrust plates 13, 14 may be fixed to the box or its cover 3 or may be integral with either. Oil picked up by the disc 6 from a reservoir 15 is scraped from it by a scraper 16 and passes to the needle bearings through passages 17, 18, returning to the reservoir by way of the chamber 19 and channel 20. The inner races may alternatively be forcibly and permanently driven on to the journal.
