Abstract

357,278. Roller bearings; lubricating. WHITE, A. E., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.-(Stearns-Stafford Roller Bearing Co. ; Lawton, Michigan, U.S.A.) June 30, 1930, No. 19823. Grant of Patent opposed. [Classes 12 (i) and 12 (ii).] The outer race 6 fits closely inside the upper part of the axle box. The lower half of the box has a greater radius of curvature to afford a space 9 so that on jacking up the box the race 6 will drop and may be easily withdrawn through the end of the box, which is closed by a cover 18. The inner race 5 is fast on the axle 2 and abuts on a soft metal ring 7. The cover is secured by nuts and bolts 21, the pressure of which is transmitted by a filler ring 22 to the race 6 and a packing ring 14. A collar 24 is riveted to the reduced end of the axle and holds in place a flat ring 26. End thrust is taken by steel rings 29, 30 having rollers 31 therebetween. The ring 7 may be readily cut away to facilitate removal of the bush 5. The cover is formed with a plugged recess 35 for lubricant which communicates with passages 38, 39, and thence with radial grooves 40 on the inner face of a ring 12.
