L'invention concerne un procédé de traitement d'une charge hydrocarbonée permettant d'obtenir une fraction hydrocarbonée lourde à basse teneur en soufre, ledit procédé comprenant les étapes suivantes : a) une étape optionnelle d'hydrodémétallation en réacteurs permutables b) une étape d'hydrotraitement en lit fixe de l'effluent issu de l'étape a), c) une étape d'hydrocraquage en réacteurs permutables de l'effluent issu de l'étape b), d) une étape de séparation de l'effluent issu de l'étape c), e) une étape optionnelle de précipitation des sédiments, f) une étape optionnelle de séparation physique desdits sédiments de la fraction liquide lourde issue de l'étape d), g) une étape optionnelle de récupération de la coupe de distillat éventuellement utilisée dans l'étape e).
