Abstract

The drain cook is used on a water-filled central heating radiator, incorporating a closure sprung (7) piston action plug (6), and utilising a demountable plug-actuator (9). The actuator (9) uses a screw-jack action to lift the plug off its seat, duals as an extension pipe to the outlet, and inverts to fit telescopically inside the plug when not in use. A cup shaped dust-cap clips onto the valve body (5) to protect the plug and the actuator. A hollow cylindrical body (5) may have conical (5a) and radial (5b) bore shoulders together with an internally threaded mouth, containing the plug (6) which has a blind bore (6c). A groove located ring seal (8) engages the shoulder (5a) to effect closure, a coil spring (7) acting between the shoulder (5b) and a plug shoulder (6a). The actuator (9) has a stepped barrel of which the head (9b) screws into the body mouth to lift the plug (6).
