Abstract

Dans une cellule, ou une batterie de cellules, d'électrolyse pour la production du chlore aux anodes et de base alcaline et d'hydrogène aux cathodes, par électrolyse d'un électrolyte chlorure de métal alcalin aqueux, comportant plusieurs logements pour électrolyte, qui renferment des paires d'électrodes (anodes et cathodes) et où lesdits logements sont divisés par une membrane hydrauliquement imperméable en compartiments pour catholyte et en compartiments pour anolyte, on obtient un fonctionnement perfectionné en faisant circuler le catholyte en cascade de compartiment pour catholyte en compartiment pour catholyte en sens contraire, du courant de l'anolyte circulant en cascade de compartiment pour anolyte en compartiment pour anolyte. La membrane empêche les ions Cl- provenant de l'anolyte de pénétrer dans la solution catholyte. Utilisation de ce procédé pour fabriquer une base caustique très pure essentiellement exempte de sel.
