Abstract
A heat pump is placed in the loft of a building. It extracts heat from vitiated air drawn out of the building by an extract ventilation system and heats water which is circulated to the building. A control module is mounted separately elsewhere in the building. The water to and from the heat pump passes through it on its way to and from the space heating radiators and a domestic hot water cylinder. The control module contains all the necessary thermostatic controls and water valves and also an auxiliary heater to supplement the output of the heat pump when necessary.
