Abstract

A solar energy collector consists of a carrier structure, an absorber and a transparent cover. The carrier structure is made from thermally insulating material in the form of a flat rectangular panel. The absorber is fixed the plate and connected to the installation by pipes which pass through the structure. The transparent cover is in the form of a shell covering the structure and acting as a housing for the absorber. The carrier structure is pref. constituted by a plate of phenolic foam sandwiched between two sheets of laminated phenolic material. The plate pref. contains metal armatures making it self-supporting and capable of being used as a roofing element. The transparent cover and the carrier structure can be fabricated by moulding, reducing the cost considerably compared to existing solar collectors.
