Abstract

A device for recovering an oil slick from the surface of the sea consists of a receiver which is half submerged and which has openings in its walls at the level of floatation. Suction pipes open into the lower part of the receiver and are connected to pumping systems to pump separately the oil and the water which separate in the receiver because of their different densities. The appts. allows petroleum to be recovered and so prevents pollution and in addn. it allow the petroleum to be re-used, whereas processes using detergents do not.
