Abstract

Method comprises applying a coating of varnish containing finely divided metal, treating the coating with acid. aq. copper salt soln. and then galvanising. A soln. of epoxide resin is mixed with iron or copper powder, applied to the articles, dried and cured, and the article is dipped in an acid galvanising bath. The simple process uses no expensive material and gives good and reproducible results. It is suitable for glass and ceramics and for decorative effects. Hot or cold-setting epoxides can be used, pref. with long pot life, and applied by spraying for uniform coatings. The coating can be very thin e.g. 50 mu. The galvanising soln. is e.g. g CusO/4l water. Other metals e.g. Cr, Ni, Sn can be galvanised on.
