Abstract

PURPOSE:To simply manufacture a uniform boride coated metal of high quality with high efficiency by coating the surface of a metallic material with a boriding agent and immersing the coated metallic material in a molten metallic bath to cause reduction. CONSTITUTION:A boriding agent such as borax or boric acid is melted, and a metallic material is dipped in the molten agent to form a uniform boriding agent coat. This coated metallic material is then immersed in a molten bath of a metal such as Al, Mg, Ca, Zn or amalgam thereof. Free boron penetrates the surface layer of the metallic material and forms a boride layer. Thus, the desired boride coated metal is manufactured.
