Abstract
Plant for heating the air blast employed in blast furnaces, using at least tow regenerators filled with checker work for heat storage, and fitted with combustion chambers producing hot gases to heat the checker work. Novelly, only one combustion chamber, which operates continuously, is used for two or more regenerators. The regenerators are pref. completely filled with check work, and provided with valves directly adjacent to the regenerators for alternate switching. Plant may be used for reducing ores to metals. Normally, each regenerator has its own combustion chamber, which is only in use for 50% of the time. The invention fully exploits the single combustion chamber and increases thermal efficiency.
