Abstract

1407961 Hot reducing gases CENTRE DE RECHERCHES METALLURGIQUES-CENTRUM VOOR RESEARCH IN DE METALLURGIE 24 Jan 1974 [24 Jan 1973 14 Feb 1973] 03374/74 Heading C5E Hot reducing gases, comprising mainly CO and H 2 , for injection into a blast furnace, are produced by partial catalytic oxidation of gaseous hydrocarbons by steam in a reforming unit, removal of the water from the reducing gases by cooling, removal of the CO 2 by absorption and reheating of the reducing gases by heat-exchange with the flue gases from the heating of the reforming unit. If the heat of the flue gases is insufficient to re-heat the reducing gases for blast furnace use, additional heat is supplied by a burner which may be used to heat the reducing gases after heatexchange or which may be used to heat the flue gases before heat-exchange. Surplus heat may be used to produce steam by heat-exchange.
