Abstract

1309589 Cracking hydrocarbon oils OSTERREICHISCHE MINERAL OVERWALTUNG AG 18 Aug 1970 39636/70 Heading C5E [Also in Divisions F1 and F4] Energy is recovered from the flue gas arising in the regeneration of catalyst (at 2) in a cracking plant by supplying the air for regeneration by a compressor (3), passing the flue gas through a cyclone (9) to a turbine (7), burning the CO in the gas in a catalytic CO boiler (10) downstream of the turbine, heating excess air from the compressor in the CO boiler, and mixing this heated air with the flue gas upstream of the cyclone. Heat remaining in the flue gases can be used to raise steam, before the gases pass to the chimney (6). As shown, additional heat can be obtained by injecting fuel at 16 and air through line 22. In case of breakdown, the turbine 7 can be by-passed by line 19, or the whole of the energy-recovery system by passing the gases from regenerator 2 through heat-exchanger 5 directly to the chimney 6.
