Abstract

In the prodn. of hot reducing gas, contg. mainly CO and H2, by reforming, a certain amt. of the cold reducing gas issuing from the reformer is removed, and after cooling, either before or after washing to eliminate CO2, this cold gas is mixed with the heating gas used to heat the reformer and the reheater, if the heating gas has inadequate heating power to maintain the heat output of the burners used in reforming and reheating. A constant heating capacity can be provided even with heating gas of varying heating power. The hot reducing gas is injected into a blast furnace to decrease the coke consumption.
