Abstract

Hot reducing gases contg. mainly CO and H2, and intended for injection into blast furnaces, are prepd. by partial catalytic steam oxidn. followed by elimination of water and CO2 from the gases leaving the reformer by cooling and absorption, the reducing gases are heated by the enthaply of the fumes issuing from the reformer and are then brought to the final temp. required by means of a smaller heater in which the heat needed is supplied by a burner, the fumes originating is this small heater are introduced again into the cycle of the fumes issuing from the reformer. The injection of the hot reducing gases into the blast furnace reduces the coke consumption. Costly conventional heaters are not needed. Less equipment is needed for the prodn. of steam. The cost of the reducing gases is lowered. The use of the small heater avoids the need for burners to supply supplementary heat.
