Abstract

The system is used to check gas pipes inside dwelling houses for leaks. The distribution pipes are first isolated from the mains, and a vacuum is then generated inside them, after which the rate of pressure rise is monitored. After generation of the vacuum a tracer gas can be introduced into the piping and leaks found by using a detector sensitive to this tracer gas. The pipes can also be connected to a reference leak, whose rate of leakage is equal to the minimum threshold value of the leaks to be detected. This leak unit can be mounted at the highest point, and can be detachable, so that the gas fitter can take it with him.
