Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to detect rapidly the leakage of gas without time delay by arranging a plurality of microphones in water in a spaced intervals along a conduit pipe having a possibility of occurrence of gas leakage.
CONSTITUTION: In the case where gas leaks from a conduit pipe 5, the gas rises up substantially vertically from the gas leaking position in water in sand 7 and a space 8. When bubbles rise up in water in the vicinity of the gas leaking point and within the space 8, sound is generated. This sound passes from water within the space 8 through sand 7 at both ends of a tunnel 2 close to vertical shafts 3 and 4 and also through the wall of a sound pipe 6, and is transferred from water within the sound pipe 6 to the microphones 9. The sound detected by the microphones 9 is converted into an electrical signal, passing through an electrical signal line 10, and is received by a sound detector 11. In this manner, the leakage of gas from the conduit pipe 5 is detected.
