Abstract

1376237 Testing pipes for leaks PENETRYN SYSTEM Inc 26 Jan 1972 [24 March 1971] 12194/74 Heading G1S [Also in Division F2] In a method of testing for and grouting leaks in a pipe, a packer 24 having inflatable end portions 17, 18 is positioned at a point 12 to be tested, the end portions 17, 18 are inflated by air passed down an air line 16 to an extent such that a space 25 is first isolated between the end portions and then reduced in volume so as to produce an increased pressure in the space, the pressure in the space is monitored by means of an electrical transducer 38 or a pressure gauge 40, and if there is a leak present, chemical grout is supplied to the space along grout lines 14, 15. The packer includes skids 20, 21 and a television camera 50 for positioning the packer. Non-return valves 32, 33 in the grout lines 14, 15 prevent air passing along the grout lines from space 25.
