989, 730. Testing pipe joints. STEWARTS & LLOYDS Ltd. Sept. 19, 1962 [Nov. 22, 1961], No. 41718/61. Heading G1S. A pipe joint is tested for leaks by sealing the gap between pipe-ends 14, 15 by means of one or more inflatable tubes 17, 18 and a resilient member 10 applied to the inner faces 12, 13 adjacent the ends of the tubes. Fluid under pressure from a pipe 21 is then admitted to the space between the pipe-ends 14, 15 and the coupling 16 and the leak is detected by a drop in pressure on a gauge 22 or by means of a soap solution.
