Abstract

The solar energy heater has a housing (10) with a transparent wall (12) which permits the passage of solar radiation. There are in- and outlets (16, 18) to form a flow path for a gaseous medium to be heated. A gas-permeable radiation-absorbent collector element (20) is positioned in the flow path within the housing. The collector receives solar radiation which passes throught the transparent wall, to transmit the heat absorbed onto the gaseous medium. A transparent radiation trap is positioned between collector and transparent wall. The trap is opaque for infra red radiation, emitted by the collector towards the transparent wall. The collector has an opaque propus mat of reticulated foam, screen cloth, and/or pressed fibres.
