Abstract
The solar energy collector is formed of two sheets of glass spaced apart and sealed by a strip of elastic material. A fluid coloured black by a suspension of carbon particles circulates through the space thus formed. It enters the space by a tube through the lower part of the elastic strip and leaves by a tube through the upper part of the elastic strip. When the assembly is exposed to sunlight the carbon absorbs radiation and heats the liquid by direct contact. There is a large total surface available both for absorption of radiation and for heat exchange. The fluid circulates by natural convection and flows through the heating coil of a heat exchanger to give up its heat.
