Abstract

A solar energy cell includes a support made of an expanded plastic material surface treated or impregnated with a compound to make it highly absorbent. Above the heat absorbing surface of the support are two sheets of material, e.g. glass or plastic, transparent to solar radiation. Between the first and second sheets is a layer of air to form an insulation barrier. Between the second sheet and the heat absorbing surface a heat carrying fluid, e.g. water, is circulated. Used for heating water for domestic or industrial usage either for heating or for process use. One cell is light and is easy to produce units with large dimensions from plastic sheets by heat-welding.
