Abstract

The heat-absorbant component of a thermal energy trap has the form of one half of a cylindrical tube split longitudinally and then fitted with internal and external radial tabs to support the semi-circular profile clear of the walls of a transparent tube for circulating a heat exchange fluid past the surfaces of the heat trap. The convex side of the heat trap is positioned to collect thermal radiation either directly or via a reflector. Pref. the trap is closed beneath or within a cover of transparent flexible plastic film, and backed by a layer of insulating material behind and/or within the transparent tube. Trap is lighter and more efficient than tubular heat trap, of which the rear half is in the shade of the exposed half and either the inner or the outer surface is not in direct contact with the heat exchange fluid.
