Abstract

1506576 Solar heaters E J BLOOMFIELD 14 July 1975 [19 July 1974] 31990/74 Heading F4U A solar heating panel comprises two rectangular sheets 1 of PVC secured together by a peripheral weld 2, apart from at the regions of inlet and outlet tubes 3, 4. A sinuous internal flow path between the inlet and the outlet is defined by welds 6-10. Gaps 12 are provided in the welds 7, 9 and 10 to facilitate drainage of the panel, the arrangement being such that when the panel is filled with liquid, the sheets 1 are pressed together in the region of the gaps which are thereby substantially sealed. The upper sheet is matt black or matt dark blue and the panel may have a protective and thermally insulating layer. The panel may be covered by a transparent PVC sheet, spaced from the upper sheet 1, Fig. 3 (not shown), and formed of material which transmits UV radiation and contains the longer wavelength radiation radiated back from the upper sheet 1. As shown in Fig. 1, the inlet tube 3 is connected to a pump 102 which is submerged in a swimming pool P and which is controlled by thermistor probes sensing the inlet and outlet temperatures. A pocket 11 is provided at each side of the panel for the insertion of rods to hold the panel down flat during use. Alternatively, the panel may be provided with eyelets whereby the panel may be pegged down, Fig. 2 (not shown).
