Abstract
A solar energy water heating system uses a non-directional sensor to heat a liquid which transfers its energy to water. The sensor is of spherical shape with a transparent cover whose surface absorbs the radiation. A spherical sensor (1) comprises two transparent covers (10, 11) which contain a spherical metallic jacket (12, 14) which is painted black to absorb the solar radiation (17). Heated water (28) is contained in an accumulator (2) which is connected via a safety valve system (43) to the m ain water supply (44). This water is heated by a heat exchanger coil (22A) through which the solar heater liquid flows. Temperature probes (34, 25) in the heater liquid outlet (15) and in the heated water are connected to a differential amplifier (33) whose output controls a circulating pump (30).
