Abstract

The wind powered propulsion system for boats or ships uses one or more sets of rotary wings (5, 6, 7) in windmill-type mountings on masts (2) set at or near mid-length of a conventional hull. The pitch of the wings is variable, and a transmission connects their output with the propeller. The craft is stabilised by means of an aero-dynamically shaped balance weight (18) with lateral fins, suspended adjustably for height from a bar (19) in the crafts longitudinal centre plane. Alternatively the rotary wings can be arranged horizontally, eliminating one right angle in the drive line.
