Abstract

Procédé pour la production d'oxyde d'éthylène par oxydation catalytique d'éthylène. On fait passer de l'éthylène et un gaz contenant de l'oxygène à travers une zone de réaction contenant un lit fixe de catalyseur à base d'argent sur un support, dans des conditions de formation d'oxyde d'éthylène, et on fait passer le produit de réaction ainsi formé à travers une zone de refroidissement adjacente à la zone de réaction, cette zone de refroidissement étant remplie d'une matière réfractaire inerte en particules ayant une surface spécifique de 0,1 m**2/g ou moins. Le perfectionnement selon l'invention est applicable à n'importe quel procédé classique pour l'oxydation directe d'éthylène en oxyde d'éthylène dans lequel un catalyseur à base d'argent sur un support est utilisé sous la forme d'un lit fixe de catalyseur dans la zone de réaction et le produit de réaction est au moins partiellement refroidi dans une zone de refroidissement garnie située immédiatement en aval et au voisinage immédiat de la zone de réaction.
