Abstract

Open-crutch tights comprise two separate legs portions each joined to a body portion comprising a waistband which encloses a given length of elastic joining the two edges of the garment at waist level. The leg portions end just below the crutch. The garment is pref. made by circular knitting, with a split forming the two above edges formed in the knitting tube. The edges may be finished to prevent the stitches from coming undone, in order to create a finished edge extending as far as a point below the crutch. The body portion may have different properties of elasticity to those of the leg portions. The elastic in the waistband may be formed by a continuous length fixed at its ends to the edges of the garment, or it may comprise two separate parts fixed to the edges of the garment, with a releasable fastener between them.
