Abstract

1,219,734. Panty hose. HANES CORP. 13 May, 1969 [15 May, 1968], No. 24313/69. Heading A3V. [Also in Division D1] A knitted panty hose garment comprises a body portion 9 knitted in stretch yarn and two separate stockings 21, the openended legs of the portion 9 having areas 14 which include bare elastic yarn forming coursewise and walewise spaced floats F such that said areas support the stocking 21. The floats may be on the inside or outside surface of the body portion and the upper ends 23 of the stockings also provided with similar floats which in use will contacts the floats of the body portion. The body portion may be weft knit, Fig. 2, or warp knit, Fig. 8. The edges of the areas 14 and ends 23 may be turned and stitched. The body portion may be formed from two tubular fabric portions each formed with a cut-out from their top edge to just about the area 14, and stitched together along the edges of these cut-outs with the insertion if required of a crotch piece. Alternatively the body portion may be made from a pair of blanks cut from a length of fabric.
