Abstract

1357024 Knitting UNION CARBIDE CORP 23 Sept 1971 [24 Sept 1970] 44376/71 Heading D1K In a method of successively knitting garments on a two bed warp machine, a simulated woven fabric 27, and a power net fabric 28 including inlaid stretch yarns 42 are interknitted coursewise at intervals e.g. 31, 32. The former fabric is knit from yarns 30 and comprises a resistant front panel, or the central portion of the front panel. The latter fabric 28 is knit from yarns 29 and comprises a stretch rear panel and possibly side areas adjacent a central portion of the front. The stretch yarn is laid-in walewise, but extends circumferentially when the garment is worn. The fabric web is cut transversely along strips 31, 32 to form tubular garment e.g. girdles, sweaters; or if a crotch seam 41 is included, panties. Filler yarns 44 may be included in waist bands 45 and leg bands. The simulated woven fabric comprises chains which may be joined by an unknitted thread, and in-laid warps.
