978,810. Underwear. CLUTSOM & KEMP Ltd. Aug. 20, 1962 [Aug 19, 1961], No. 30003/61. Heading A3V. [Also in Division D1] A knitted article having an elasticized waist band in which predetermined courses have loops of rubber or its equivalent knitted thereon is characterized in that said waist band 13 is knitted integrally with the main body part of the article. The articles are formed on a cylinder and dial machine as alternate tubes of body portions 1 and elasticized portions 2 where the length W is twice the length of the body portions and the length W<SP>1</SP> is four times the length of the waist band after it has been doubled over in the finished article. The body portion is then cut along lines 5, 6 and 7 to produce two body portions and two crotch portions 8. The tubular body portions are then opened and re-folded so that opposite fold lines 9 lie adjacent each other and the cuts 6 form leg openings. The crotch portions 8 are then stitched to the free edges 3, Fig. 5, and the elasticized band 2b doubled over and stitched down as at 18. The leg openings 13 are seamed at 16 and lace trim 17 may be added.
