Abstract

The hearth recovers the heat from the combustion gases in an open fireplace, the heat-recovery unit being mounted (30) immediately below the decorative beam (31). The unit can have one or more horizontal zigzags through which the heated air passes without descending, and these can be mounted on the wall forming the intake cowl. The hot air outlet can discharge below the level of the beam, or against the sides of the chimney. The top wall of the unit can have a port closed by a swing shutter, regulating the flow of hot air into the room.
