Abstract

The photoflash bulb with electric ignition has a pipe shaped glass body with the suction socket at one end whilst the other end is fitted with the pressure foot enclosing the supply wires. Between the supply wires at their inner ends is a wolfram filament with a layer of ignitable material, such as a pulverised Zircon mixture. The glass body is filled with oxygen and energy rich combustible material such as zircon, hafnium and aluminium metal foil. The flash bulb consists of light permeable glass cover (10) containing the combustible material (16) and a combustion supporting gas in a quantity above that required for a stoichiometrical chemical reaction with the flash combustible material. There is also an ignition device in effective contact with the combustible material, and containing a pair of supply wires.
